John Curtis Dixon correspondence and administrative records, 1943-1964.

The series consists of records of John Curtis Dixon, as Executive Director of the Southern Education Foundation, from 1943-1964. The records include correspondence to a variety of educators, business leaders, and foundation and government agency executives from the South. Most of the letters closely relate to the central focus of the Southern Education Foundation at the time, which was supervision of rural schools and projects directly related to supervision. The series also contains a substantial amount of administrative records. Such records include surveys profiling Atlanta University, Allen University, and Benedict College; correspondence with state education leaders in the South; training programs for educators in Southern States; and files for states requesting grants-in-aid from the Southern Education Foundation. Also included are records relating to Foundation's efforts to acquire funds for building a facility in Atlanta.
